I don’t read a whole lot but from time to time I will pick up something of interest. Most of the time, its something fight related or written by a fighter. I read the Ken Shamrock book, the Pulver book and most recently the Forrest Griffin book. I will go and read something unrelated every now and then. I think my favorite book ever was “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell”.
“I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” is a compilation of stories by Tucker Max. I would try and describe Tucker myself, but his self description of himself from his book says it far too well:
“My name is Tucker Max, and I am an asshole. I get excessively drunk at inappropriate times, disregard social norms, indulge every whim, ignore the consequences of my actions, mock idiots and posers, sleep with more women than is safe or reasonable, and just generally act like a raging dickhead. But, I do contribute to humanity in one very important way: I share my adventures with the world.”
And share he does. The whole book is a series of stories about his “adventures”. From start to finish, your stomach will be hurting from laughing so hard. You could read the book from start to finish or you could just jump around like I did the first time through. No matter how you read though, you will be laughing your ass off. I was particularly excited when I heard they were making a movie based on the book. They took a couple stories from the book and made it into a movie.
Have a look at the red band trailer here… which is definitely NSFW.
The movie opened as a limited release yesterday, so I had to drive down to the Providence Place Mall to see it last night. It’s been a while since I have laughed so hard and at a few points, I just wanted it to stop so I could catch my breath and get my stomach to stop hurting. The movie obviously couldn’t cover as many stories as the book, but it stayed true to form and was pretty much exactly as you would picture the stories in your head.
And if this isn’t enough of a reason to see it… Forrest Griffin makes a cameo and it shows the face off for the TUF6 Finale between Mac Danzig and Tommy Speer. Apparently, Tucker Max is a huge MMA fan.
In short: Go see the movie and let me know what you think.
